TRUDY MILLER LAYERS FASHION EVENT “FORM FOLLOWS IDEA:

NO WASTE/NO WAIST LEFT BEHIND” at WEBSTER HALL APRIL 30TH 10PM

Show of Innovative N o-Waste Multi-Purpose Fashions Highlight Changing Consumer Needs in a New Era of Sustainability and Utility

(New York, NY) – Trudy Miller Layers presents “FORM FOLLOWS IDEA: No Waste/No Waist Left Behind” on April 30, 2009, at Webster Hall’s Marlin Room (125 E 11th Street) at 10:00pm. The fashion showcase will feature transitional layering systems by designer Trudy Miller, and variations on the theme of multi-purpose utilitarian chic designs by four designers from her Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn storefront - TRUDY MILLER LAYERS. Featured designers include Amparo3, Juliet Hone, Nicole Gagne, Sohung Designs and Vivi Sun. The event is sponsored by The Art of Fashion, Herbert Fox and McMullen Reps.

“I didn’t create the line because I wanted to be a fashion designer,” said Ms. Miller. “I just saw an opportunity in the fashion industry that matched my interests as a designer and a consumer, so I went for it!” Trudy has invited the other designers to explore her Utilitarian Chic design philosophy and translate the concept into their own stylistic language. Ms Miller’s work has recently been featured on NBC’s Today Show, and in Time Out New York’s 2009 Shopping Guide of the best independent shops in New York City.

Each Trudy Miller piece is designed to be multi-functional with several different wearing options within one piece of clothing; the “Kimono Dragon” from her collection can be worn as several dresses, tops or tunics as the wearer finds necessary for different occasions. This is achieved through a special proprietary layering technique that is designed to be body conscious, flattering and forgiving at the same time. Each piece is created in seasonal silk, cotton, wool or rayon jersey with subtle dyeing techniques, all of which communicate the latent beauty and unique manner in which each piece is to be worn.

An architect by training and Solutionista by trade, Miller brings a “whole systems” approach to creative problem solving. In 2006, Trudy quit her teaching job at Parsons and took her desire to inspire from the classroom to consumers, where she now collaborates with her clientele and local designers to flesh out her vision of smarter and more sustainable clothing options for the 21st Century.
